Remote Live View URL displays Desktop only

That's really bizarre. I have tried on four different Windows machines (two at church and two at home) and the results are exactly the same.

I may have seen something like this when I was messing around with different display settings. My extended desktop is set to be a lower resolution than the actual screen is capable of so that I could use a scale of 100%. It may have nothing to do with it but what are your display settings for the extended desktop monitor?

Hello @PaulRowell , you're really onto something here!! My resolution was set to 1680 x 1050. After reading your comment, I switched it to 1920 x 1080 and boom, the browser main view began to work!!! I have experimented with other resolutions like 1280 x 1024, 1280 x 720 - all of which work too. Not sure why 1680 x 1050 doesn't.
At least now I have got a workaround and I am really grateful. God bless you all.

Hello, unfortunately the main view failed to work at church today when I tried. I initially had the laptop set to 1920 x 1200 and the extended monitor set to 1920 x 1080. When that failed to work, I set them both to 1920 x 1080 which made no difference either.

One thing I do find strange is that, sometimes though my Windows display settings are exactly the same as those in OpenLP, for both laptop and monitor, I still get a warning message when starting OpenLP saying they are different. That cannot be right can it?

Could it be that the OpenLP main view URL does not recognise certain resolutions?

I'm wondering if it has something to do with the scale factor too?

I only get that message if the settings don't match the current configuration AND I haven't been in to Settings before exiting.

Hello Paul , thanks for coming back. My scale factor is set to 100% and I changed my Advanced settings to match yours above but not much has changed.
I think the issue has to do with monitor resolution because I have just hooked up my laptop to two monitors with different resolutions as shown in the screenshot below:

Screen 1 (my laptop) is 1920 x 1200 and the other two screens (2 & 3) are 1680 x 1050 and 1920 x 1080 respectively.
I have just tried setting each one of these in turn to be used as the display, and the only time, without fail, that the Main View URL works is when set to Screen 3 (1920 x 1080). When the other screens with the "odd" resolutions are used, the URL just displays the desktop. I am guessing the OpenLP Main View endpoint isn't able to handle these "odd" resolutions and it would be interesting to get a developer's take on this rather interesting behaviour.

We use the Full HD resolution so that would explain why we don't see this issue. Perhaps @witterholt can comment?

I've just experimented with several different resolutions and in all cases the Main view remote mirrored the display and didn't show the desktop. The only time I see the desktop is if I force that through the live display buttons,

Thanks for your efforts, Paul. I guess I just have to live with it. How the Stage and Chord view work but not the Main view is baffling.

For what it's worth, when trying to troubleshoot an issue with capturing OpenLP video in OBS, I tried a browser view with localhost:4316:main and got the desktop. I know that's not how to get video into OBS, but I was just playing around. We have three screens (intel iMac 2550x1440, monitor 1600x1200 and projector 1920x1080). I haven't taken the time to figure this out because my problem was getting to see the video. Apparently on a Mac, that's problematic on OS 12.x. We now use a Display capture source which works (except for ... but that's for another post sometime). I just wanted to let you know you aren't alone, @KCG

I have just been playing around and noticed that when I set the HiDPI Mode in the Advanced settings to DPI Unaware,

and also set my Main Display Monitor to a scale of 125% in my Windows Display settings like so,

I get the Remote Main View to work!!!
The only problem is that while the Monitor view is nicely displayed as below,

the Remote Main View displays with some amount of offset, making text disappear of the screen as seen below

This I believe is down to the 125% scale factor being applied to the screen being used as the Main Display in Windows Display settings.
The screen I am using as Main Display has a resolution of 1680 x 1050. However, OpenLP's representation of it is 1344 x 840. See Screen 3 circled in this screenshot

In summary, without the 125% scaling in Windows, I only get the desktop in the Remote Main View. The resulting Remote Main View with the 125% scaling however, is quite unusable.
I hope with this new information, someone may be able to work out what is going with what seems to be a really obscure edge case and offer me some pointers.

This is probably because Windows reports the screen size to OpenLP as 1344x840, and then when OpenLP goes to grab the screen for the main view, it asks for the screen size Windows told OpenLP, but Windows now re-interprets that as actual pixels.

I decided to setup my laptop to dual boot Linux Mint and Windows 11. I can report that the Remote Main View works perfectly when I boot into Linux Mint. I only get this issue when I boot into Windows.
Looks like it's time to bid Windows farewell.
