video displays bank screen while playing sound

Hello,
We experienced an issue with a worship video today. The video was playing but only the audio with a solid black screen. I noticed a similar issue https://discuss.openlp.org/d/1272-video-blanking-problem but I don't like resurecting old threads.
We run:
Windows 11
Latest OpenLP
A version of VLC

As always, I thank the lord for your support and an amazing presentation software.

Hi! Thank you for not resurrecting the old thread! The underlying technology used in OpenLP has changed a lot, so it is not the same issue.
Can you easily reproduce the issue? Does it only happen with that specific file?

I have the same problem with a WIN 11 system running an AMD GPU. The same system will work fine on the NVIDIA GPU. (The system has 2 GPUs)
Thus,
run OpenLP on AMD with NVIDIA as the projection works fine.
Run OpenLP and Projection on AMD runs video blank screen.
Run OpenLP and Projection on NVIDIA has no problem.
Run OpenLP on NVIDIA and Projection on AMD runs video blank screen

If I move the cursor to the projection screen and click on the screen, the video will show.

OpenLP 3.xx has had trouble activating the video. The problem did not show in 2.xx.

Not sure if this is any help with your AMD GPU problem, but I encountered the same blank screen problem on my church's Windows 11 Ryzen 7 powered laptop running an AMD chipset. Neither PowerPoint presentations nor videos would project when using OpenLP even though the PowerPoint and VLC plugins were active in OpenLP, and even though they projected properly when run in outside of OpenLP in respectively PowerPoint 2021 and the latest version of VLC. It transpired that the problem was not in OpenLP at all but due to an AMD chipset driver problem. I went here:
https://www.amd.com/en/support/download/drivers.html and downloaded the Windows AMD Auto-detect and Install tool which then checked the laptop hardware and installed the appropriate drivers. One this had been done and the laptop restarted the blank screen problem disappeared - PowerPoint presentations and video files were properly projected.

I keep my system updated regularly. Just to make sure I ran the AMD Auto-detect and install tool today. It loaded drivers and restarted the system. However, the symptoms do not change.

OpenLP is the only program I run that has this problem. OLP has no problem with my NVIDIA GPU, only the AMD RYZEN 5400 on board GPU. When this problem started with 3.x , I thought I had solved it with a driver update. But, then it returned. That was when I ran more scenarios, and found that it is consistent when I am projecting through the AMD RYZEN GPU.

OLP will blank the screen when I click DESKTOP Reveal. However, the desktop does not show until I click on that display. This is true for videos also. It is as if there is something missing to activate the screen. I see others having similar problems.

I really like OpenLP. I think it is great and a miraculous gift to the church. I do not want to sound like a complaint, just trying to help make things better.

I was able to recreate the issue by the following steps:

Launch OpenLP
Send Powerpoint to live using LibreOffice Impress
Send video to live

This issue persists. I updated the driver for AMD RYZEN 5000 GPU. I had windows delete the old driver and install the newest. After the update, I can no longer start the video by clicking on it, nor activate the desktop view. So there was a change with the new driver from a clean install. It seems to be with the program and the service running through the AMD. When one or the other is running through my NVIDIA there is not a problem.

Everything I read about these symptoms indicates that there can be a difference between activating the video on the AMD vs the NVIDIA. Some discussions indicate that some GPU will automatically start while others need a command. I am not familiar with this coding, so I cannot say.

Thank you for the new release (3.1.3). It loaded just fine.

3.1.3 does not address the black screen issue I have been having. I have the program and screen both running on the AMD onboard GUI and when a video is started, the screen goes black and audio plays. With all the drivers updated, I cannot click on the screen to make it visible. It just remains black until a song, Bible, or custom slide is selected to go live.

There is something that OpenLP does (does not do) that is different from other programs. VLC runs fine outside of OpenLP, for example.

Again, thank you for all the work. I cannot find a product I like better for all of its capabilities. Just wish this problem did not exist.
