Duplicating Songs when Import Songs option is turned on.

I have a problem that I cannot resolve.

After cloning a song and then editing it the next time I load a service with that song in it duplicates the song in the list. of songs every time. I then end up with multiple copies to match the number of times I have loaded the service. I can reproduce it by starting a new service and then loading the service again.

Luckily with Import songs turned off this does no happen.

I have resorted to Exporting and Importing songs when I copy a service to the church laptop to avoid this. I have forgotten to to this at times and it can be embarrassing if we need to include the song at the last minute in a future service.

Can anyone suggest a solution please. Is it a problem in the sqlite file. Can it be reindexed with the DB Browser app. How do I do that? Is it two many songs.

I just tried to reproduce this behaviour on 3.1.7 on Windows 11 and I'm not seeing the issue. I'm wondering whether I haven't followed the steps you are taking? There is another discussion on this issue I'll try to find it and post a link here.

Can I also add as it may be relevant. The service was service was created on my Home PC and copied to the Churche's one.

No being familiar with Python can anyone explain what tests are made to determine whether the song is already in the database or not. It may help to decide what the likely problem I have is.

Hi Chris,

I think I may have found what is causing this. I think it is just the song "Build your Kingdom here" that is causing the problem. I think it is the Author that is causing the issue. Could you try changing the author of Build your Kingdom to a single name eg Chris Llewellyn. and removing the multiple names and then save the service and reload a couple of times to see if the modified song still replicates?

When a song has multiple authors OpenLP is expecting the multiple Authors to be added individually. It then builds a list of authors itself.

I believe it is the comma(s) in the firstname that are causing the issue.

Then try loading the song

Brilliant. That's solved it.

I probably have a number of songs I have put in like this one because I was unaware that OpenLP would build the list for me (clever). Now I know what the problem is I can put it right when I spot them. I remember now it was doing it on 2.4 so I turned the option off.
