How to sort your screens on Windows

I have responded to many requests for help on sorting out issues with screens/displays on Windows systems, especially with the growing number of displays that have high dpi resolutions. This post seeks to be a place where we can point people to if they are encountering such problems.

Problem 1 The OpenLP user interface looks like this:

To fix this go to the Advanced settings page and make the following change and then restart OpenLP:

Problem 2: My projector or TV Display Screen looks like this:

And my OpenLP display settings don't match the Windows settings:

In the above screen shot Screen 2 is what OpenLP calls the display, this is where OpenLP will show the songs etc. As you can see OpenLP reports the size of this screen as 1280 x 720 but Windows reports the size as 1920x1080:

The issue is that the Scale is set to 250%. To fix this issue set the Scale to 100% , now the display looks like this:

Problem 3: My projector shows the OpenLP interface or when I start OpenLP all I get is a white screen with the OpenLP logo.

This probably should have been the first post as before OpenLP is started you must make sure that the monitors on your PC are set up correctly. To check this right-click on the desktop and choose "Display Settings":

Make sure that the setting highlighted is set to "Extend these displays"

Be aware that Windows may number the displays differently to how OpenLP identifies the displays.

Problem 4: My display shows the song words in the top left corner or doesn't fill the screen:

This usually happens when your OpenLP theme doesn't match your display resolution. It can happen when, for example you replace a TV display with a 4K screen after using a FullHD screen etc.

So in the example above my display screen has a resolution of 3200x1800 but my OpenLP theme was set up for the screens at church where we use a FullHD setting (1920x1080). As I will be preparing slides for church I change my display at home to match the church . However if you have upgraded to higher resolution then changing the theme is the way forward.
