Hi Everyone,
I have a workflow issue and I'm wondering how you all manage it. Maybe I'm missing something.
The basic issue is that we don't necessarily have a standard way to sing a song - this may vary according to worship leader, or even the service / time of year. At Christmas, for example, we have services where we do parts of some songs in Dutch ( I'm from an international church in the Netherlands. To manage this, the worship leader simply modifies the verse order when creating the service file - the Dutch verses are already in the database as "Other"
The service file is then saved on Drop box and then opened at church on our beamer laptop, which has a database where the song probably already exists. This system works well, until the worship leader decides during the practice that they want to change the song in some way. When the beamer operator does a song edit to fix this, the starting position for that song edit is the database version, which may not be the same as that in the service file. Unless the operator is really on the ball this can (and sometimes does) have unintended consequences.
I have a few ways of working dealing with this:
- Be very careful when doing a song edit just before the service
- Work with an empty song database in church, so the service file version is always imported
- If you need to do an edit, delete that song from the database and re-open the service file to get the right version.
Does anyone have other methods?
This is an occasional issue for us, but if this is something that other struggle with would there be support for a feature request to allow for an automatic update of the database to match the service file?
Thanks in advance for your input.
Happy Christmas,
Andrew
