Thanks for the new release. However I have a problem with 3.0.

I just downloaded the Mac version and loaded it onto my MacBookPro (Retina, 13inch, 2015, 8GB) and it takes 2 full minutes to initialize before it presents the main screen. For the first two minutes it presents the splash logo and a spinning beachball.

I should have added the operating system is MacOS 12.3.1

The new version on OpenLP supports controlling Keynote and PowerPoint, and maybe the delay is created when OpenLP tries to start up those applications on your Mac. If so, try to disable the integration in the Presentation settings.

Can't do that. All the presentation options are greyed-out apart from PDF which is checked. A PDF works when selected, but if it's the wrong aspect ratio the default song theme is displayed behind it.

If you uncheck the "Check for updates to OpenLP" on the General Page of Preferences/Configure, it starts up without any problem.

Yeah, I want to know that, too. But it was there previously - at least in 2.9.4 - but I think back in 2.4.6, and maybe earlier.

I especially want to know if 3.0 is 'worth my time' upgrading an Apple Silicon Mac, given the problems I and others have experienced with OpenLP finding VLC.

That's not a criticism of Raoul, TGC, and the other members of the development team. If you don't have these machines, you can't test your software on them. And I don't expect you to be able to go and purchase every latest piece of hardware that's released.

When showing a presentation, the left and right edges used to be black all the time in 2.4.6 but now they're the color of the current theme (see images). This is somewhat distracting to viewers. Is there a way to change this? My workaround is to choose a theme with a black background, choose a song, then run the presentation.

@AndrewK VLC libraries are now included with OpenLP. Did you upgrade directly from 2.4.6 or uninstalled it first and then reinstalled the 3.0?

The VLC (requires restart) option in Settings means that if any option inside it is changed, the OpenLP should be restarted to apply them.

It's a known issue that's being fixed for the next release. Some combinations of Windows languages + Windows versions/updates + internal components used by OpenLP is causing this issue.

Just an update on this...I've tried both Blank Theme and Custom Theme under Images. Just for clarification, this is happening on Presentations not Images...don't know if it makes any difference or not.

It means that we package VLC with OpenLP. You don't need to go and download it.

If, as you say, VLC is now packaged with OpenLP, what does the user need to do? (That question isn't expressing doubt about the validity of what you said.)

My question is because I have previously deleted VLC in an attempt to isolate the issue of OpenLP not finding VLC. I also deleted OpenLP and re-downloaded it.

VLC is nowhere to be found on my system. I can't install it if it isn't there to begin with.

I discovered the bad news a few hours after I posted my question.

My Apple silicon MacBook Pro still won't find VLC.

It used to! Everything was fine until a week or two before Christmas. Sunday morning service on 11 December is when everything went haywire for me. Given that everything was working properly on this Mac on the previous Sunday, something must have been changed during the week between the two Sundays, 4 and 11 December.

When you look at any change logs, you'll need to remember that I'm in your future! So, I'd suggest looking at the Friday prior, 2 December and going through to Saturday 10 December for changes made which have caused OpenLP to stop finding VLC.

I'm just trying to narrow the possible time period of when things worked as they should and when they stopped working. And then convert that from Australian time to American time.
