NIV 2011 download

Dear fellow users, I am trying to locate a downloadable version of the NIV 2011 (latest tranlation). I am fully prepared to pay for it, but having scoured the internet for 2 hours I find nothing (and even less about a version suitable for OpenLP). Any help will be appreciated. YIHS, M. <><

Hello, Sorry, M., I don't have any answers, I'm just having the same problem! I had set myself up to get bible verses from the internet (Crosswalk) and it was working quite nicely till today, when I started getting parse errors. Having looked into it, it seems there is a theory that the biblestudytools.com website may block this kind of access after a while, though I haven't made much use of it. They have changed their site recently, maybe that has had an effect. Anyway, I thought maybe I should "just" download a version, preferably NIV 1984. The Bible import wizard talks about various formats as if they exist, but, as far as I can tell, OSIS is an XML project, and I haven't come across anything in csv format either. Opensongs Downloads page points to the Zefania page where there are indeed bibles, but not NIV. I understand that NIV is under copyright, but it's too bad we don't even seem to be able to pay for an electronic version in a useable format. I suppose I'm going back to cutting and pasting text, which will take away about 30% of the benefit of using OpenLP over PPT, I reckon. Really too bad. Hopefully someone out there can help! @shona, If you download the version pointed to by PaulR, unzip it, and then import into OpenLP using OpenSong format it will give you the NIV 1984 version you seek.

If you import a Bible from a Web Download (File --> Import --> Bible, select Web Download as the Format), you can get what's labeled as "Today's New International Version" from Crosswalk, or "New International Version 2010" from BibleGateway. This requires an Internet connection to work, though. Is this what you're looking for?

Note that Crosswalk webbibles currently doesn't work in OpenLP 2.0.5. You'll have to use the latest beta to be able to use it.

Digging up an old thread (sorry). I found some bible data (including NIV 2011) and then wrote a script to turn it into a format that OpenLP and OpenSong should be able to read. If you try to open the NIV link that @PaulR had posted, it is no longer working. But I have used Wayback Machine to retrieve the link, and here it is: http://web.archive.org/web/20150318195726/http://www.opensong.org/files/bible-modules/NIV.zip You can download the NIV Bible there, unzip it, and then import into OpenLP using OpenSong format it will give you the NIV 1984 (as @@magradek had said).

I can no longer use the method below to download the NIV. Not sure if it will ever come back but...I'm leaving the instructions anyway, just in case.

I'm a little confused by this thread. I was able to quickly import the full NIV Bible into Openlp just using tools that were readily available in Openlp.

I had also scoured the Interwebz for the answer but just accidentally ran across this process since other people had seemed to be using it (but weren't sharing how they were using it).

For Google's sake, here is the guide to getting NIV 2011 into Openlp (with pictures!):

In Openlp, go to File | Import | Bible -That will open the "Bible Import Wizard"

Press Next

Select "Web Download" in the "Format:" field

Click on "Download bible list"

Click "Bible Gateway" in the "Location:" field

Click New International Version (NIV) in the "Bible:" dropdown field

Click Next

In a browser window, go to Google or your favorite search engine and type in "NIV copyright"

As of mid July, 2020, click on the result that says "Permissions - Zondervan" (points to https://www.zondervan.com/about-us/permissions/)

Find the appropriate use case on the page (in my case, It was "Copyright notices" | "NIV" | "2")<img alt="" src="https://forums.openlp.org/uploads/editor/c5/y4x7q7a781j7.png">

Copy the copyright text (as of July, 2020, it is "Copyright © 1973, 1978, 1984, 2011 by Biblica, Inc.™") and paste it into the Openlp Bible Import Wizard "Copyright:" field<img alt="" src="https://forums.openlp.org/uploads/editor/zk/8q37276zldy6.png">

Back on the Zondervan site, copy the permission information (as of July, 2020, it is "Used by permission of Zondervan. All rights reserved worldwide. www.zondervan.comThe “NIV” and “New International Version” are trademarks registered in the United States Patent and Trademark Office by Biblica, Inc.™") and paste it into the Openlp Bible Import Wizard "Permissions:" field

Click Next

It should be clear from there.

By the way, this process works with many other Bible versions and I have used it for just that. All the Bible publishers that I've tried have the copyright permissions text on their website somewhere. Just combine it with these instructions and you can keep it all legal and get the results you need.

I hope this helps someone do a little less churning than I had to go through.

Is it legal to download copyrighted translations from www.ph4.org, or is this a violation of copyright laws in most western nations such as Canada, USA, etc...? I do not believe that translations of the Bible should be copyrighted and restricted from free distribution however I wonder how God would feel about believers in Messiah downloading copyrighted translations from sources that do not have permission to distribute these translations, such as the NKJV, NIV, NASB, ESV, etc...? I also wonder if people could be sued by the copyright holders, such as big publishing companies such as Harper Collins which own the copyrights to the NKJV and Zondervan which owns the copyrights to the NIV. I have prayed that God would set free the NKJV from copyright restrictions so that it can be legally distributed and shared for free. The NIV, NASB and ESV I don't really care about because they are corrupted translations from the very corrupted and perverted Critical Revised Greek Text (Westcott and Hort/UBS/Nestle Aland). The Koine Greek Textus Receptus (Koine Greek Received Text) is the true genuine Apostolic Koine Greek New Testament and the 1525 Jacob Ben Chayyim Mira'ot Gedolat (1525 Bomberg Bible) is the true genuine Hebrew Masoretic Text.
