What I did originally, was put the hymn number in the title, for example :Joy To The World (145)

You can always do the same with verse numbers, for example: (1) Joy to ....This can be done manually. I quit doing it after a while, because I don't want to be married to the hymn book, for a couple of reasons.1) I can't use anything that's NOT in the hymn book. From the time they select the material in the hymn book to the date of publication can be a decade or more. It's not uncommon for a hymn book published in 2005 to contain nothing newer then 1995. I can get newer material from online sources, and introduce songs not in the hymn book. 2) There are some really wonky tunes in the hymn book, that are different from the version people are used to, you end up with 30% of the people singing the tune they know, 5% attempting to sing what is in the book and the rest standing there looking confused.
