Remote MySQL database causes OpenLP 1.9.8 to hang

I am trying to setup OpenLP to use a remote MySQL database hosted on my webserver. I setup a clean database and allow remote access to the database and use the registry settings as suggested. However OpenLP keeps hanging. Sometimes it opens the main window and hangs when I try to load or edit or save a song, however most of the time it hangs during the splash screen. I have checked the debug logs and there are no errors reported. When it hangs during the splash screen the last line in the log is:2012-02-26 05:33:15,931 openlp.core.lib.plugin                                  DEBUG    Plugin songs initialisedIt definitly connects to the database as it has populated it with tables and when I import a song it appears in the database.I am using Windows 7 x64 and MySQL 5.0.92-community on a linux server. Tried using 1.9.8 and the dev build r1883Has this issue been seen before?

When you say it "hangs" at the splash screen, I presume you mean it hangs when you have the logo with the white background? If that is the case, it is not hanging, it is the projector screen that is displaying over your screen. Uncheck the "Display if a single screen" option in the configuration to prevent this from happening.As for the hanging, I can only presume that it is due to lag on your Internet connection. We haven't tested OpenLP over an Internet connection using MySQL, that was never the intention for that functionality. We always intended the use case to be a local network where you don't have those sorts of issues.

When I say splash screen I meant the splash screen i.e. the OpenLP logo in circle with transparent edges that opens when the program loads and then disapears when the window opens. The thing that everyone else calls a splash screen. And just to be clear when I say hangs I mean it becomes unresponsive to user input and reports as 'not-responding' in task manager.It is possible the hanging could be due to lag over the internet connection but if that were so then I would assume that the program would recover after sometime when the data has been loaded. I'm assuming here that there isn't a timer that polls the database every so often so that there is only a set amount of data to be loaded and the program should be waiting for user input.  Essentially it will be slower over the internet but not impossible to run if it all works correctly I would have thought.Is it possible the requests could timeout and these arn't handled correctly? Timeouts are unlikely on local network setups and so may not have been tested yet but may still occur on locally networked databases so should be handled.Thanks for this great program so far, I've not been using it very long and its much better than previous presenter software I've used.  By setting up the remote database I'm just trying to make it an even better choice for me by trying to avoid sync conflicts that we keep getting when we use dropbox to sync databases.

We haven't specifically put any timeout handling in, so I would expect a lovely "you have encountered a bug" dialog to pop up if it did.I don't supposed you'd be able to try the same thing, but on a different operating system?

I have tried the settings on Windows 7 x86 and an XP VM. Both of which also hang during the splash screen as well. The last line in the log being "DEBUG    Plugin songs initialised" again. Interestingly when I put in the wrong settings for the server OpenLP closes itself automatically. So by hanging it must have made at least an initial connection to the database.
