I just posted another post with this at the end, but thought that it ought to have its own post.

I have imported my songs with verse numbers embedded in the text (e.g. verse 1 starts with "1 Amazing grace..."). But I had a problem for knowing how to include the verse order. For users who know the song, they can click on the verses in the right order. But no-one can remember the order of the verses perfectly, if at all in some cases. I felt the need to include the verse sequence. I thought of having a notebook with the sequence on paper for the user to look up, but that is unwieldy and a backwards step. I eventually came up with a compromise. For non-standard verse orders other than 12345 etc, I've also included the custom verse order as an additional 'author' on the screen for the user to know how to navigate the order (e.g. [12C3C] ). (I exported them from another format where I had a few large files for separate songbooks, each with a bit more data, and used VBA to save the individual files in opensong format, ready for import.)

I realise that a proper solution of making separate fields for each verse, and then a field for sequence or verse order, would be a lot of work. But instead, could a user field (or two) be added that could be shown on the lower part of the display (e.g. aligned right on the same line as the CCLI info)? That could be used for verse order, or church name, key for musicians, etc. If it could be selected for display or not, it (they) could be used for comments or other info that is useful to the user (e.g. use different number or order of verses for certain circumstances, e.g. worship leader X uses this order while Y uses another order).

It would be better still if those field(s) could be shown on the control display alone, and not on the screen, so that the tech guy has more info than the congregation needs to see.

Any thoughts?
